010 - Indirect & Direct Painting (Rm 502)
(intermediate - advanced) - John Wellington
Wednesdays: 6:30 - 9:30pm
January 28th - April 22nd (No Class March 18th)

$500 = $450 (tuition) + $50 (model fee) (3 CEUs - Twelve 3-hour Sessions)

This class is designed to remove much of the mystery of the older and admired techniques of the Masters. Painting from the nude, students will learn both the faster techniques of painting in alla prima and dead color palates, and the slower more refined skills of starting with a grisille (monochromatic under-painting), then building up the surface with semi-opaque layers of color and transparent glazes.   Weekly demonstrations by John Wellington will include advanced blending techniques, applications of warm and cool layers of color to give depth to flesh, and how to balance both perceptive and conceptive skills when painting from life. Emphasis will also be placed on developing strong drawing and compositional skills.   There will also be a thorough review of brushes, paints, media, linens, wood, and copper prepared panels.
