ACADEMY SCHOLARSHIPS
In its distribution of scholarships, the Academy does not discriminate on the basis of gender, age, race, color, religion, sexual orientation, ethnic or national origin or physical handicap.
New York Academy of Art scholarships are highly competitive. Factors such as but not limited to a student's diversity of ideas and cultural content are considered when awarding. Please take the time to submit application materials that represent your accomplishments. To receive fullest consideration for scholarships:
- US citizens/permanent residents must complete your FAFSA by February 15th.
- International Students must submit the International Need Assessment form by February 15th.

PRESIDENT'S SCHOLARS
The President’s Scholars Program is the highest award for entering MFA candidates. President's Scholars receive a $20,000 award for the first year of study in the form of tuition reduction. The student or students selected provide assistance with MFA Open Houses, Academy tours, and coverage for the Library & Special Events on an 'as needed basis.'
Application & Deadlines
- MFA Application must be submitted by February 1st. All February 1st applicants will be considered for the scholarship program. Those who demonstrate a compelling case for financial aid and meet application standards will qualify for consideration for the scholarship.
- Finalists will be contacted for an in-person or phone interview between February 8th and February 20th.
- The Academy reserves the right to award 0-2 awards annually.

EXHIBITIONS SCHOLAR
Second year MFA students are eligible to apply for the $15,000 Exhibitions Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic excellence demonstrated in the first year at the Academy, financial need, and interest in Academy exhibitions and events. This position will call for art handling experience.
Application & Deadlines: April 15th
- Describe your background as a registrar, preparator and/or any professional experience working in a gallery. Please include experience handling art for exhibition and/or organizing and packing art for transport.
- Describe your proficiency with computers, specifically Excel.
- Highlight any experience with student leadership.

NEW MEDIA SCHOLAR
The New Media Scholar Program is awarded to one entering MFA candidate who demonstrates strong web presence through the chronicling of the Academy’s MFA application process via new media mechanisms. New Media Scholars receive $2,000 -$5,000 in the form of tuition reduction. The student or students selected document their first and second year experience as well as provide assistance with the use of new media to recruit prospective students and globally increase the Academy’s exposure.

ACADEMY SCHOLARS
Students demonstrating merit may receive annual scholarship awards ranging from $500 to $15,000. Completed admission applications are reviewed, graded and ranked by the Scholarship Committee. Award amounts are deducted from the student's tuition bill. Awards are for one year. Approximately 25-30% of applicants are offered Academy Scholars awards.
Decisions to renew or upgrade existing awards or grant new awards to continuing students not formerly awarded are made by the Scholarship Committee during the spring semester. The Academy reserves the right to adjust scholarship in the event you are awarded any other substantial scholarship support.

ACADEMY SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP
Students entering their second year of study are eligible to apply for this award of $5,000. This scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic excellence as demonstrated by first-year performance at the Academy, financial need and vested interest in the public programs of the Academy. Application information is available through the Office of Admissions & Financial Aid in February. The Academy reserves the right to award 0-3 awards annually.

PORTRAIT SCHOLARS
Portrait Scholars awards are sponsored by Friends of the Academy and will receive $10,000 from a sponsor. Selected students will create one piece of artwork in collaboration with the sponsor.

POSTGRADUATE FELLOWS
The Academy offers three fellowships to sponsor a post-graduate year in residence at the Academy. These fellowships are awarded through a competitive application process. The award includes: assistant teaching and/or administrative assignment; studio accommodation; tutorial support; annual stipend and exhibition. Application information is available during each spring for students in their last semester of the MFA program.
THE LCU FEMALE STUDENT HOUSING ASSISTANCE SCHOLARSHIP
The New York Academy of Art and the Ladies Christian Union annually support housing scholarships of up to $5,000 for entering matriculated students demonstrating excellence and financial need. Those scholarship applicants who demonstrate excellence and present a compelling case for financial aid will qualify for consideration for The LCU awards. LYME ACADEMY SCHOLARSHIP
The New York Academy of Art is pleased to offer a Lyme Academy College of Arts scholarship. Scholarship applicants must hold a Lyme Academy Bachelor of Fine Arts degree or be in their final semester of study and demonstrate excellence in their New York Academy of Art application. For students entering the New York Academy of Art, excellence is the single criterion for admission. Excellence is demonstrated by the quality of the materials submitted as part of the application for admission, including: an essay demonstrating that the individual is a qualified candidate for the Academy’s Master of Fine Arts Program; official college or university transcripts confirming award of a BFA degree from Lyme Academy; two letters of recommendation; and a portfolio of up to 20 works of art. The portfolio should represent both technical sophistication and the sense of an evolving personal vision.
Scholarships are not limited to one applicant from Lyme; additional scholarships of varying amounts may be awarded to other outstanding applicants. Applicants from Lyme are automatically considered for this scholarship with no separate application required.

Application materials are due no later than April 1st. The New York Academy of Art reserves the right not to award a scholarship if there are no competitive applicants from Lyme in a particular year. Grant money, scholarships and gift aid includes funding from sources outside of the Academy to assist in educational expenses. This type of funding does not need to be paid back by the student. Please read below for a list of gift aid opportunities.
LESLIE T. POSEY AND FRANCES U. POSEY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS
Program Description: Mr. Posey was an accomplished sculptor with a representational style. Mrs. Posey was also an artist. Mr. Posey established this foundation to provide graduate assistance for art students with a major in either painting or sculpture of the traditional kind. Scholarships range from $1000 to $4000.
Eligibility Requirements: The grant recipient must be a full-time student and maintain satisfactory progress toward his or her academic goals. The eligible student must have completed an undergraduate four year program. Before distribution of funds, evidence of acceptance into a graduate level program must be presented to the foundation.

JACK KENT COOKE FOUNDATION
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation's Graduate Arts Award enables undergraduate students or recent alumni with exceptional artistic or creative promise and significant financial need to pursue up to three years of study at an accredited graduate institution in the US or abroad. FULBRIGHT FOREIGN STUDENT PROGRAM
A mainstay of America’s public-diplomacy efforts, the Fulbright Foreign Student Program brings citizens of other countries to the United States for Master’s degree or Ph.D. study at U.S. universities or other appropriate institutions. The program has brought some of the world’s finest minds to U.S. campuses and offers program participants insight into U.S. society and values. Many foreign Fulbright grantees are early-career professionals who will return to take leadership positions in their home countries, often working at universities or in government service. More than 1,800 new Foreign Fulbright Fellows enter U.S. academic programs each year. Foreign students apply for Fulbright Fellowships through the Fulbright Commission/Foundation or U.S. Embassy in their home countries. THE ELIZABETH GREENSHIELDS FOUNDATION
The objective is to promote, by charitable activities carried on by the Foundation, an appreciation of the traditional expression in painting, drawing, sculpture and the graphic arts, by aiding worthy art students, artists or sculptors who need further training or other assistance during their formative years.
Who May Apply: Awards are limited to candidates in the early stages of their careers working in the following: painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture. Work must be representational art. To be eligible for a grant, the candidate must: have already started or completed training at an established school of art; and/or demonstrate, through past work and future plans, a commitment to make art a lifetime career. The foundation welcomes applications throughout the year. There is no deadline for sending this application. Important Information: The foundation will not accept applications from commercial artists, photographers, video artists or filmmakers or any artist whose work falls primarily into these categories. The foundation is neither a school nor a gallery. It does not conduct classes or organize exhibitions. Grants are made directly to the beneficiaries--not through other organizations. THE JOHN F. AND ANNA LEE STACEY SCHOLARSHIP FUND FOR ART EDUCATION
The scholarship, known as "The John F. and Anna Lee Stacey Scholarship Fund," is open to United States citizens only, both men and women, single or married, irrespective of race, creed or color. The age range is 18 and 35 years. Appointments will normally be for one year, and the amount available for distribution will be approximately $10,000. COLLEGE ART ASSOCIATION PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FELLOWSHIP FOR ARTISTS
CAA initiated the Professional Development Fellowship Program in 1993 to help M.F.A., terminal M.A., and Ph.D. students bridge the gap between graduate study and professional careers. By offering support at this critical juncture in scholars’ and artists’ careers, the CAA hopes to make timely degree completion more viable and employment opportunities more accessible. In turn, by nurturing outstanding scholars and artists at the beginning of their careers, the CAA hopes to strengthen and diversify the profession as a whole. Each fellow receives support over a period of two years. Year One: Degree Completion CAA grants $5,000 to each fellow for use during the final year of his/her MFA or Ph.D. program. CAA does not restrict the use of these funds, nor will CAA prohibit recipients from holding other scholarships, fellowships, or employment during the term of this grant. Year Two: Professional Placement CAA helps each fellow search for employment at a museum, art center, college, or university. Upon securing a position, CAA provides a $10,000 subsidy to the employer as part of the fellow's salary. Participating organizations must match this grant 2:1. In addition to administrative and/or teaching duties, all fellows' positions must include a curatorial or public service component. NATIONAL SCULPTURE SOCIETY
Scholarships of $1,000 are available for students of figurative or representational sculpture. Scholarships are paid directly to the academic institution through which the student applies. JACOB K. JAVITS FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
Program Office: Teacher and Student Development Programs CFDA Number: 84.170 Program Type: Discretionary/Competitive grants (fellowships) The program provides financial assistance to students who have demonstrated: superior academic ability and achievement; exceptional promise; financial need to undertake graduate study leading to a doctoral degree or a masters degree in which the master's degree is the terminal highest degree in the selected field of study. The Department of Education awards fellowships in selected fields of study of the arts, humanities and social sciences. Panels of experts appointed by the Javits Fellowship Board (Board) select fellows according to criteria established by the Board. Students must demonstrate financial need by filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The selected fields of study supported by the Javits Fellowship Program are available for your review. Subject to the availability of funds, a fellow receives the Javits fellowship annually for up to the lesser of 48 months or the completion of their degree. The fellowship consists of an institutional payment (accepted by the institution of higher education in lieu of all tuition and fees for the fellow) and a stipend (based on the fellow's financial need as determined by the measurements of the Federal Student Assistance Processing System. THE PUFFIN FOUNDATION
Grant awards from the Puffin Foundation, Ltd. can only be awarded to permanent residents and citizens of the United States. U.S. citizens whose projects encompass work in other countries are still eligible to apply. The Puffin Foundation Ltd. continues to make grants that encourage emerging artists in the fields of art, music, theater, dance, photography, and literature whose works due to their genre and/or social philosophy might have difficulty being aired. The Foundation does not have the means to fund large film/documentary proposals, grants for travel, continuing education, or the writing or publishing of books. PAUL AND DAISY SOROS FELLOWSHIP FOR NEW AMERICANS
This foundation provides opportunities for continuing generations of able and accomplished New Americans to achieve leadership in their chosen fields. A “New American” is an individual who is a resident alien; has been naturalized as a US citizen; or is the child of two parents who are naturalized citizens. The program is open to individuals who retain loyalty and sense of commitment to their country of origin as well as the US, but is intended to support individuals who will continue to regard the US as their principle residence and focus of national identity. The fellowship supports 30 individuals per year for up to TWO YEARS OF GRADUATE STUDY. Students already in graduate study are eligible, though not past their second year. ART SCHOLARSHIP FOR MATURE WOMEN
Women artists or photographers who are at least 35 years of age are invited to submit three color prints of any medium (oil, watercolor, original works on paper, or sculpture) or three color or black-and-white prints of photographic works. EMERGENCY GRANT FOR ARTSISTS OF COLOR, WHEELER FOUNDATION
Grants of at least $250 to aid visual artists of color with urgent financial needs such as housing, medical costs, fire, and flood damage. Applicants must live in the greater NYC area (including certain counties in CT & NJ), and must be actively working artists of at least 21 years of age. THE NEW YORK TUITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
The New York Tuition Assistance Program [TAP] provides grants annually to New York State residents attending institutions of higher learning within the state. Depending upon the student's financial status, awards range from $75 to $550 per academic year. The applicant must: Be a New York State resident and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident; Be enrolled for at least 12 credits (or for at least 3 credits for disabled students) and matriculated for a degree; and Have, if independent and single with no tax dependents, a net taxable income below $5,666 or, if dependent, a family net taxable income below $20,000.

Create your own scholarship and publicize via social media and/or personal outreach letters via post.
Ask your employer (including the military), local religious groups, community and cultural groups,
government officials (city, state, county, country), your family, friends and community leaders if they can supply funding, or can direct you to other sources. In return for assistance, offer services such as portrait commissions, public artworks, or volunteer work.

FEDERAL STAFFORD LOANS
There is no deadline by which students must submit applications for federally guaranteed student loans, though Federal Stafford loan applicants should expect processing of their loan applications to take from four to eight weeks and should therefore submit required forms as soon as possible. Eligible students may receive both Subsidized and Unsubsidized Federal Stafford loans, but the combined loan total may not exceed either the cost of education (tuition, fees and living expenses) or the maximum Federal Stafford loan limit of $20,500 per academic year. Applicants for federally guaranteed loans must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. For more information on Federal Student Aid and to apply, please visit www.fafsa.ed.gov. FEDERAL GRADUATE PLUS LOANS & PRIVATE LOANS
Students may borrow additional loans in order to cover their cost of attendance at the Academy. Loans may be taken through the Federal Graduate Plus program or through private educational loans.
