The Academy sponsors several International Residencies awarded on the basis of merit and suitability. These residencies expose students to the global art world, build relationships, and often afford the opportunity to exhibit work abroad.

 

 

Beijing & Shanghai Residency

 

Four Academy alumni and current students spend two months in Beijing and Shanghai. The residency takes place on the campuses of the University of Shanghai and the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. All four residents have separate studio and living accommodations at both locations. They engage with local established artists and participate in events at each institution. At the end of the residency all four participants participate in an exhibition organized by the Museum of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and be included in the CAFAM’s Biennial.





Carrara Residency

 

The Merit Scholarship is awarded to one student who spends a month of residency in Carrara, Italy. While there, the student studies with master sculptor Stephen Shaheen. This residency is awardedby New York Academy of Art and a panel of judges that included top architect and designers.





Giverny

 

Eight, two week residencies at the Terra Foundation for American Art-Europe.
The foundation is located in the village of Giverny, France, next to Monet's house and gardens, just forty minutes by public transportation to Paris. The facilities include houses, lecture halls, studios and the Terra Museum for American Art in Europe which has rotating exhibitions. The scholarship includes airfare, room and board, and studio spaces for students to complete independent self-directed projects. Leipzig

 

Made possible by the New York Academy Travel Fund, the Villore Foundation and Trustees Gordon Bethune and Eric Fischl, this scholarship funds a two-month residency, including airfare and per diem support, and exhibition opportunity for a continuing student, hosted by the Leipzig International Art Programme, in Leipzig, Germany. Dominican Republic Drawing On Sight+Site

Normandy

 

Granted by the Prince of Wales Foundation in collaboration with the Prince of Wales Drawing Institute and with the kind benefaction of Trustee Christopher Forbes, this scholarship funds up to ten two-week student painting sojourns, including airfare, at the Château de Balleroy in Normandy, France, along with students from the Prince's Drawing School in London.
