If you’re looking for housing in New York City, remember that Manhattan is just the beginning. Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, Staten Island, and New Jersey each have their own, unique neighborhoods and lifestyles to offer. Manhattan is the borough most associate with “the city.” Most affordable housing can be found in the other four boroughs as well as New Jersey (Jersey City or Hoboken). Two important factors to keep in mind when looking for an apartment are safety and travel time. Below is a list of some neighborhoods outside of Manhattan that are safe and have a reasonable commute to the Academy (45 minutes or less):
Brooklyn: Park Slope, Bay Ridge, Boerum Hill, Brooklyn Heights, Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Greenpoint, and Williamsburg.
Queens: Astoria, Flushing, Forest Hills, Long Island City, Rego Park, and Woodside.
New Jersey: Hoboken and Jersey City.
