Michael Grimaldi

Michael Grimaldi is a painter and Director of Drawing at the New York Academy of Art. He has taught drawing, painting and anatomy for more than twenty years, and pursued anatomy and dissection in Buenos Aires and Philadelphia to teach it.

BIO
Grimaldi studied painting and drawing at the New York Studio School, the National Academy and the Art Students League of New York, and pursued independent study in anatomy and dissection at the Facultad de Medicina in Buenos Aires and at Drexel University College of Medicine.
He has taught drawing, painting and anatomy for over twenty years at institutions including the School of Visual Arts, the National Academy, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the Art Students League of New York, and has taught Advanced Artistic Anatomy in Drexel’s Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience.
His awards include the Alma Schapiro Prize and an Affiliated Fellowship at the American Academy in Rome, the Edward G. McDowell Travel Grant, two Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation grants and a residency at the Montello Foundation in northeastern Nevada. He has exhibited at the Mori Art Center in Tokyo, the National Academy Museum in New York, the Beijing Art Museum, the de Young Museum in San Francisco, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the Woodmere Art Museum in Philadelphia, and shows with Forum Gallery, Hirschl & Adler Modern and Joshua Liner Gallery.
