Dan Thompson is a painter and draughtsman, and Faculty Chair of the Certificate of Fine Arts program at the New York Academy of Art. He has taught here since 2001 and is designated a Living Master by the Art Renewal Center.

BIO

Thompson has taught master classes and workshops nationally and internationally for more than twenty years, and co-founded two art schools in New York City. He has held long-term teaching appointments at the Art Students League of New York, the National Academy of Design, Parsons School of Design and Studio Incamminati. He has served on the faculty of the New York Academy of Art since 2001, and currently chairs the Certificate of Fine Arts program.

His work is held in public and private collections around the world, including the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the National Arts Club, the Butler Institute of American Art, the Pasadena Museum of California Art, the Forbes Galleries, the Dahesh Museum of Art, the Museo Europeo de Arte Moderno in Barcelona, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Shanghai Art Museum and Beijing’s World Art Museum.

His awards include the Grand Prize from the American Society of Portrait Artists, First Prize in Figure Drawing at the Salmagundi Club and two Bernstein awards from the Corcoran School of Art. The Art Renewal Center has designated him a Living Master.
