Wade Schuman

Wade Schuman is a painter and Director of Painting at the New York Academy of Art. His work draws on natural history and the human figure, and he has taught privately and in art schools for more than three decades.

BIO
Schuman studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, traveling extensively in Europe on a Schiedt Travel Grant from the Pennsylvania Academy.
He has taught painting and drawing privately for over fifteen years and at institutions including the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia, alongside his work at the New York Academy of Art.
His awards include three Visual Arts Fellowship grants for painting from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, an Award of Excellence from the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and selection as a finalist for a National Endowment for the Arts Mid-Atlantic Regional Fellowship. He has held numerous one-person shows in New York and Philadelphia and has exhibited widely in museums across the eastern and southern United States.
His work has been discussed in The New York Times, The New Yorker, the Philadelphia Inquirer, Art in America, Slate and The Sciences. He is represented by Forum Gallery in New York and the More Gallery in Philadelphia.
