We humans are resilient. We weather life and the give-and-take of vast exchanges of
raw energy from both nature as well as from each other. The premise of my work is
more pertinent today than ever.
I have been drawn to the epic tale. The story of an individual who comes to face a
challenge so extreme that everything once filling their world quickly fades to reveal a
totally new reality. There is purity and urgency in this hero’s journey. And everything
seems to be hyper real and hyper symbolic.
My sculptures encapsulate moments of the quest where major shifts occur. Moments
with high concentrations of raw energy. My sculptures embody and filter this energy.
The modeled forms act as a landscape for the energy to glide across and maneuver
throughout, again and again.
I pose a stance with ingredients of a hero. Exposure, armor, enlightenment, love,
abandon and force. A purity of intention, illustrated through pullings and tensions. I
sculpt the female form because I know her so well and I am consistently enamored by
how incredibly rooted in strength she is.
My intention is to give the viewer a moment to re-energize, knowing they are standing in
front of a symbol of hope and honesty. I want to offer the viewer a relatable moment in
both the stability and vulnerability of these figures and to consider how natural it is to
be in the state of both. A state that is the combination of what we need to know and
what we need to believe.
