201

201 is located on the 2nd floor and is a shared, flexible workspace, intended for large works. It is available for students enrolled in CFA and MFA programs. 201 is reset monthly to ensure all students have equal access to the space.

201 Etiquette

  • Artwork and materials are to be put away after you are finished for the day.
  • You are NOT to staple canvas to the wall. Work should be transportable. 
  • Clean your work area of any debris – 201 is like any other classroom. Remove all trash, paint, tape, etc.

 

Garden Level 3 (GL3)

GL3 is a communal sculpture room intended for clay, marble, and plaster casting. This classroom includes HEPA air filtration units and downdraft tables for sanding or other processes that may create dust. It is available for students enrolled in our CFA and MFA programs. This is not a long term use space and is reset monthly to ensure all students have equal access to the space.

  • This is a shared space. All work is to be put away after you are finished for the day. Long term storage requires permission from the Studio Manager.
  • Clean your work areas of any debris. GL3 is like any other classroom. Remove your trash, materials, tools, etc.
  • HEPA dust collection must be turned on when working with materials that spread dust – clay, plaster, marble, etc. Unsure? Ask the Studio Manager.
  • When cleaning, NEVER sweep. Use a mop or one of the BLUE HEPA vacuums for clean up.

 

Kiln Room

The Kiln is on the garden level and is managed by the Studio Manager, who provides a reservation system for its use. A calendar for reservation can be found on the Kiln room door. Work study students are available on the intervening days to assist in loading and unloading the kiln. The kiln can only be set by Faculty or the Studio Manager.

 

Spray Booth

The Spray Booth is the designated work area for use of materials that contain volatile organic compounds such as varnish, fixative, and spray paint. These materials are only to be used in the Spray Booth and should NEVER be used in the studios or classrooms.

  • The spray booth is the designated work area for the use of materials that contain volatile organic compounds (VOC) such as varnish, fixative, and spray paint. Any process that results in fumes of any kind must be done in the spray booth. If you are unsure about materials, please speak with the Studio Manager before use.
  • Make sure that the vent is turned on while using the spray booth. The on/off switch is located on the wall to the right of the spray booth. The ON button is GREEN. The OFF button is RED.
  • Keep the door closed when in use.
  • Sanding is not allowed in the spray booth. There are downdraft tables and particulate filters in GL1, GL2, and Gl3 – Use this equipment when sanding.
  • Wear proper respiration equipment, eye protection, gloves, etc. Questions about personal protective equipment? Ask the Studio Manager.
  • The spray booth must be cleaned by the student immediately after use. Studio Etiquette is your personal responsibility.

*Additional rules and regulations are posted inside the spray booth and must be followed at all times.
