In 2019, I lost two of my closest friends to the opioid crisis. Since their death, painting their image has taken the quality of a resuscitative act. Somewhere between the documentary candor of vernacular photography and the plasticity of oil paint lies a sense of the numinous; I find the mark with the edge of a razor.
