Dream Journey of the Peach Blossom Land, 2024, oil on canvas, 30 x 24 inches
My work explores immigration, perseverance, and belonging shaped by my experience as a first-generation Korean immigrant. Through figurative paintings of myself and individuals from underrepresented communities set in liminal, dreamlike spaces, I reflect on labor, escapism, and fractured ideas of home. I incorporate elements from Korean art and history, reinterpreted through Western classical painting techniques, to examine the complexities of the diasporic experience and transformation.
