18TH ANNUAL

SUMMER EXHIBITION 

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

 

We are excited to announce this year’s Summer Exhibition will be located at Forum Gallery (475 Park Avenue, New York, NY 10022). We are also pleased to share that there will be a grand prize winner who will receive $5,000, to be announced at the opening reception. Please see below for the timeline and guidelines.

 

CALENDAR 2024

April 8:  FINAL DEADLINE for receiving all online submissions (11:59pm EDT)

May 8:  Notification of acceptance via email

May 13:  Artist confirmation, loan agreement(s), and hi-res jpeg(s) due

June 10-13:  Artwork drop off to Forum Gallery (Monday through Thursday, 10am-5:30pm, Closed Saturday & Sunday)

June 20:  Exhibition opening reception 5:30-7:30pm

July 19: Exhibition closes at 5:30pm

July 23-26: Pickup of unsold artwork (10am-5:30pm)

ELIGIBILITY

Open to all current students, alumni, and faculty of the New York Academy of Art’s MFA and CFA programs. All artwork must be original, completed in the last 3 years (2021-2024) and must be available for purchase.

 

MEDIA/SPECIFICATIONS

  • Paintings, drawings, unique prints, and sculptures are eligible.
  • Photography, digital art, and giclees will not be considered.
  • Accepted 2D artworks must be ready to hang for formal gallery presentation with all the necessary hardware as well as withstand the rigors of packaged shipment (i.e. all paper/mylar/etc. works must be framed or mounted, no clips or magnets will be used to hang work. Please use D rings and/or wire for works that are on canvas on stretcher bars.
  • For accepted 3D artworks – Forum Gallery will be able to provide a pedestal in most situations, but please confirm with the Academy prior.
  • Each art­ist may submit up to three entries.
  • Artwork submitted must not have been exhibited in a previous Summer Exhibition.
  • All artwork must be available for purchase.
  • Artists must state the final sale price upon submission.

NOTE: Prices and/or size of works will be taken into consideration by the jurors if deemed too excessive.

 

ENTRIES          

  • The deadline for submissions is Monday, April 8, 2024 (11:59pm EDT).
  • Submissions will be accepted online only; any submitted work that differs from the digital entry guidelines below may be disqualified.
  • All works must be in .jpg format
  • File names for each jpeg must be named exactly as follows: Lastname_Firstname_Titleofwork.jpg (e.g. Warhol_Andy_Untitled.jpg)
  • If second views of a work are submitted, the file names must be named: Lastname_Firstname_Titleofwork_view2.jpg (e.g. Warhol_Andy_Untitled_view2.jpg)
  • Files must be 72 dpi and no more than 550 pixels on its largest side.

EXHIBITION

“Summer Exhibition” opens June 20, 2024 (5:30-7:30pm) and continues through July 19, 2024. All accepted works must remain available for sale and on view at Forum Gallery until the close of the exhibition. Forum Gallery is open Monday through Friday, 10am-5:30pm, closed July 4 and 5.

 

DELIVERY of ACCEPTED WORKS

  • All artists/lenders are responsible for transportation to and from Forum Gallery at the lender’s expense.
  • You must notify Forum Gallery in advance of your delivery plans (contact information and instructions will be shared with acceptance letters)
  • Mailed and hand deliveries must arrive during gallery hours (10am-5:30pm) June 10-13, 2024. (Closed Saturday and Sunday.)
  • C.O.D. deliveries will not be accepted.
  • Accepted works being shipped must include a Prepaid Return Shipping Label. (Return by FedEx and UPS ONLY. We cannot accept return postage via USPS.)
  • Late or damaged shipments will not be received.
  • Works must be shipped in reusable packing cartons, NO PACKING POPCORN.

RETURN of ACCEPTED WORKS

  • The Lender is responsible for collecting work from Forum Gallery at the Lender’s expense July 23-26, 2024.
  • If picking up by hand, you must do so during gallery hours 10am-5:30pm. You may not collect art past July 26. Please do not try to collect your artwork over the weekend.
  • If you sent a return shipping label, the return of unsold works begins July 25.

 

LIABILITY

All reasonable care will be given to objects while in the custody of Forum Gallery. The Academy will cover insurance for the artwork listed on page one while on Forum Gallery premises. The Academy and Forum Gallery cannot assume responsibility for possible loss in transit or damage or deterioration incurred before the artist delivers to the Academy, or after if not removed/picked up as stated above. It is understood that unsold works that are not removed from the exhibition by the end of the loan agreement by the artist/lender will no longer be property of the artist/lender and the Academy reserves the right to use the artwork as it sees fit.

 

SALES/REPRODUCTION

Artists will receive 40% of the final sale price, Forum Gallery will receive 30%, and the New York Academy of Art will receive 30% in support of scholarships, public programs, and administrative costs. The artist agrees to share with the Academy and Forum Gallery a discount of the work up to 20%. The New York Academy of Art and Forum Gallery reserves the right to reproduce accepted entries in all promotional material including press releases, collateral, and website, in perpetuity.

TERMS OF AGREEMENT

By submitting your work through the submission site link, you confirm that you understand and agree to the entry guidelines as stated above. Any submitted work that differs from those terms may be disqualified from consideration.
