I focus on lighting and contrast to communicate conflicting ideas and experiences girls and women confront from an early age. The reflective elements I use are stand-ins for the female experience of confronting, learning, and relearning difficult realities of our environments. These experiences cause constant change, jumping between girlhood and womanhood; The world desires both and neither from you. Learning, adapting to, and navigating this is one of the primary challenges of being a woman.
