My work deals with social relationships between people and the simultaneous aspects of camaraderie and division within a group. It focuses on people seated around a table and the interactions or lack of that occur; it’s a closer look at the relationships we maintain and its complications. Large groups tend to dissolve into smaller pairings. There’s something amusing about seeing a group of friends interact, watching the flow of conversations occur, catching yourself not part of any. It’s an alerting feeling to be hyperaware of the group dynamics in which one’s currently taking part. As a result, the paintings are a mix of reality, memory and psychology.
