“We can turn day into night and night into day. We may cover snow-capped mountains with
luxuriant foliage. That is our, the artist’s, freedom, and such is artistic truth, which we can
demonstrate through our works.”-Bruno Schulz
I like to let the childlike-self inside me be free and play around with images and ideas drawn
from in my imagination. Everything starts to exude its own shades and different nuances,
inanimate objects begin to come to life, things are connected and disjointed at once like pieces of
a puzzle. This process enables me to bring back the lost childhood abilities to see behind the
curtain of the ordinary, mundane things in life and the ability to build an imaginary world; a world
touched by the real world that has familiar scents and sounds, a world as perceived in a childhood
dream where everything is sentient and alive. To bridge between the world of childhood and the
reality on my canvas, I often use personification, similes, and metaphors. The memory of childhood
helps me to expand upon the meaning of an object and think about the world in more fluid,
unusual ways. I hope to access and conjure up the childlike-self inside me to foster a world that is
fantastic but real to us.
